How to Stay Healthy While Traveling

Hello from Dublin, loves! I have been super busy while I’ve been traveling and, as you can imagine, it has put a damper on my routine of being healthy. Although it’s a lot harder to maintain a healthy lifestyle while traveling, it is still doable and that’s what I want to talk about today. You don’t have to compromise your fitness just because you’re on the go.

We all live busy lives in one form or another. For some, traveling is the norm and you have to work out a system to ensure you’re still being healthy no matter where you are. I’ve been away from home and on the go this past week and had to do just that. Here are some tips I put together for you for staying healthy while traveling.

1.    Don’t just give up.

Don’t just throw your health out the window because you’re on “vacation”. This can derail your progress once you get back home. I know how tempting it is to take the entire trip and call it a “cheat week”. But if you want to maintain your healthy lifestyle while traveling, you have to commit to it even while you’re away from home.

2.    Order healthy foods at restaurants.

Restaurants can be really accommodating if you just ask nicely. Sure, the burger smothered in cheese and difference sauces looks amazing, but it’s really not good for you. Instead, ask for a burger without all the cheeses or with minimal sauce #nobun. And instead of having a side of fries, ask to switch it out for a side salad or steamed veggies. Most places have those options if you just ask.

3.    Work out wherever you can.

Not everywhere you go is going to have a fantastic gym. Some places may not even have a gym at all. But that’s okay because you don’t really need one! Just because you’re traveling doesn’t mean you can skip your workouts. There are plenty of at-home exercises you can do to get your blood pumping and to build muscle. It’ll even be more beneficial if home-style workouts are much different than what you normally do. Switching up your exercise routine can actually be a good thing.. You can also start your FREE 7-day trial of my workout program to see if you like it which can be done at home or in the gym!

4.    Stay hydrated!

Never forget to drink tons and tons of water! You’ll be in a new environment and potentially eating foods you don’t normally when you’re at home. Upping your intake of water can not only help you feel full and satisfied after eating healthy meals, but it’ll also help keep your energy levels up where they should be.

5.  Make sure to stretch after sitting for a long time.

Something many people forget to do is to take a break, get up, and stretch out the best you can. When you’re seated for so long – like on a train, in a car, or on a plane – it can make you feel really stiff and tired. Stretching out can help you feel more relaxed while getting your blood flowing at the same time.

6.    Buy your own food as often as you can.

I know that one of the best things about traveling is trying all the different cuisine, but that can be really harmful if you have a habit of ordering the most unhealthy thing on the menu. Instead, buy as much of your own food as you can. That way, you can eat healthy meals that you’ve made yourself instead of being forced to only eat what restaurants offer – which aren’t always healthy.

Traveling can be filled with so much fun and adventure.. if you’re not too stressed about your health to enjoy those things. Sticking with these tips can help you enjoy your trip while maintaining the healthy lifestyle!
